Projectors with AUTO FOCUS (LT25, LT30, LT35, NP10, NP50 and NP60) always focus automatically.

However, if a digital image setting has been activated in your projector the image will always be displayed in interpolated fashion, which means you get a blurred image despite using Auto Focus .

To avoid this, deactivate all digital settings in your projector which could lead to an interpolated image. The following points should be noted concerning these digital settings:

a) If your computer runs at a higher resolution than the natural resolution of the projector then interpolation will take place. For instance, an SVGA projector requires an 800x600 computer signal, so any higher resolution such as 1024x768 will be interpolated to 800x600.

b) Ensure that you have an optimum set-up for the projection screen which does not cause any trapezoidal or keystone distortion which could render automatic or manual keystone correction (including 3D reform) necessary, as any such digital keystone correction would then interpolate your image.

Please check the following points to ensure that you obtain a properly-focused image on your projection screen:

Deactivate all digital settings which could lead to an interpolated image. The following points should be noted concerning these digital settings:

a) If your computer runs at a higher resolution than the natural resolution of the projector then interpolation will take place. For instance, an SVGA projector requires an 800x600 computer signal, so any higher resolution such as 1024x768 will be interpolated to 800x600.

b) Ensure that you have an optimum set-up for the projection screen that does not cause any trapezoidal (keystone) distortion which could render automatic or manual keystone correction (including 3D reform) necessary, as any such digital keystone correction would then interpolate your image, leading to the same effect as that noted in point a) above.

c) Deactivate the digital zoom. Otherwise your image will be interpolated (see point a) above).

Finally, you should of course make sure that the optical focus is correctly adjusted.

With certain NEC projectors it is possible, with the aid of free software known as the GeoCorrection Tool, to project onto non-flat surfaces such as cylinders or corners. When doing so the 16:9 format is not supported.

Due to the high 55° projection angle of the WT series only special rear projection screens should be used, because with conventional rear projection screens you get a hot spot.

The memory device (flash memory card or USB memory device) must be formatted with the FAT16 or FAT file system. If formatted with FAT32 or NTFS it will not be recognised.

When connecting a projector to a video recorder or DVD player you sometimes get a ripple effect, i.e., horizontal bars of interference running downwards over the image.

The system is earthed via both the aerial line and the line filter of the projector power supply. To suppress this ripple you need a sheath current filter high pass filter in each aerial line which does not allow the interference current through but does allow the useful signal to pass. The filter has the standard connector/coupling for an aerial line and is equally suitable for both radio and TV.

Test: unplug all aerial connectors, [and] when the ripple stops this filter is the right solution.

Permanent saving of keystone settings (for horizontal, vertical and diagonal values) for all current NEC projectors:  

To permanently save your digital keystone corrections you first have to activate the 3D REFORM MEMORY in the EXTENDED MENU.

How to do this:

Go to the ON-SCREEN MENU and in MENU MODE select EXTENDED MENU mode. Now go to PROJECTOR OPTIONS:

Now select the menu item SET-UP

and go to PAGE 4

There select the checkbox 3D REFORM MEMORY

and press the OK button.

Your horizontal, vertical and diagonal 3D reform (keystone) data will now be permanently saved.

The PC card slot, which is situated on the projector main unit, allows you to make presentations without a PC. Just insert a compact flash or flash memory card containing your stored presentation material and display images directly onto a screen. The PC card slot means there is no need to transport a PC along with the projector. The projector will display JPEG, BMP, TXT and HTML (text only) files.

Distortion occurring when the projector is not exactly perpendicular to the screen is called keystoning. To prevent this NEC has developed Keystone Correction , a digital technique for the correction of keystone distortion, replacing it with a sharp, rectangular image.

Automatic Keystone Correction adjusts images distorted, either upwards or downwards, due to being projected at an angle. The integrated sensor detects the vertical inclination of the projector up to an angle of +/- 30 degrees. This feature enables the projector to be set up quickly and easily.

The new NEC chip is the outcome of exhaustive research by NEC Viewtechnology, the company which developed ASIC scaling for converting pixels. Separate algorithms manage the vertical, horizontal and diagonal correction, giving you more freedom to position the projector wherever you want.

A newly-developed NEC chip provides 3D reform, a keystone correction feature which eliminates trapezoidal distortion. Whereas conventional ‘up-down-left-right’ correction functions are unable to eradicate this kind of distortion, 3D Reform delivers vivid, sharp image projection. If the projected image is distorted, all you have to do is click on the four corners of the screen to activate the keystone correction function, whereupon a rectangular image will be restored. This gives you new freedom in positioning the projector as it can now be placed at an angle to the screen, rather than having to be positioned directly in front of the screen where it may impede the audience’s view.

Projection angles: [up to] 40° vertical and 30° horizontal (25° with the LT240 / 220)

AUTO 3D Reform automatically adjusts the image size to the screen size.

The image sensor detects the position and shape of the screen and automatically adjusts the image to fit the screen. This eradicates the time-consuming entering of settings and offers you increased flexibility when positioning the projector, allowing the presenter to concentrate on the actual conference or presentation.

Auto Wall Colour Correction enables you to make your presentation on a wall or whiteboard, thus eliminating the need for a screen. In fact, you can use almost any suitable surface and the MT1065 or MT1060 will still display stable, beautiful images. When projecting images onto a coloured wall the Auto Wall Colour Correction feature automatically adjusts the image colours at the simple press of a button. To detect the colour of the wall onto which the image is being projected the projector emits a test pattern made up of white (W), red (R), green (G) and blue (B) light, and an image sensor then detects the colour of the projected test pattern. Auto Wall Colour Correction means your presentation can be reproduced on any projection surface and you still get wonderfully sharp, vivid images.

Whereas the focus is adjusted manually on conventional projectors, the Auto Focus function of NP40/50/60 projectors means adjustment is automatic. The projector’s integrated image sensor determines and automatically adjusts the focus to create a clear, sharp image, allowing you to concentrate on your presentation rather than having to waste time fiddling with settings.

If you want to use a notebook with video output, whether to display directly from a DVD or run a video clip within a PowerPoint presentation, you first have to switch off the notebook’s internal LCD MONITOR via the Fn + F3..F10 keys, so that only the external monitor is active.

However, you have to do this before starting the presentation as otherwise your notebook may crash.

When using Notebooks the external monitor output on the notebook’s VGA connector must first be activated.

Depending on the notebook this is done using the key combination: Fn plus F3..F10. (if necessary check this in your notebook’s manual).

These special function keys are colour-coded on your notebook keyboard (yellow, blue).

The Fn key is located between the Ctrl and Windows/Alt keys in the bottom left-hand corner of your notebook keyboard.

The monitor output function key is usually indicated with an LCD /CRT symbol or lettering on the F3..F10 keys.

Now press Fn + F3..F10 button to access the following:

Option 1: switches on both the internal LCD monitor and the external monitor output; 

pressing again accesses

Option 2: switches off the internal LCD MONITOR leaving only the external monitor on. This is recommended since the notebook’s graphic chip will now transmit correct VESA timing to the beamer;

pressing again accesses:

Option 3 (standard): the external monitor output is deactivated, leaving only the internal LCD monitor active.

Yes. The PC Card Viewer and the Blackboard Function, for instance. Projectors equipped with the PC Card Viewer feature are particularly suitable for mobile use since you do not need a notebook or PC to make a presentation. Instead, you can take your presentation along with you stored on a normal PC card or Compact Flash card. Meanwhile, the Blackboard feature allows you to create drawings via the USB mouse and project them onto a screen, facilitating interactive presentations and audience rapport.

You can select the following connection types: VIDEO, S-VIDEO and COMPONENT (YUV) Signals.

Furthermore, all projectors are PAL Progressive-enabled (via YUV or RGB).

The latest NEC projectors produce virtually no irritating fan noise. The VT series is ideal for home cinema use as it offers outstanding value-for-money in this highly price-sensitive segment.

Most projectors use LCD technology. This splits light into the primary colours red, green and blue. Each colour is then directed through an LCD display acting as a ‘light valve’ and the light is then reassembled. There is an LCD display for each individual pixel and each primary colour. DLP technology involves the use of huge numbers of tiny quadratic mirrors arrayed on a Texas Instruments DMD chip. Only when a mirror is tilted will it reflect the light shining onto it back towards the screen. This very high-frequency switching on and off of points of light is not perceived by the human eye and allows different shades of colour to be portrayed. The colours are generated by a colour ribbon featuring the primary colours red, green and blue.

LCD technology is characterised by a high degree of colour saturation and homogeneous illumination. It is very reliable and excellent value for money. DLP technology provides highly realistic colour reproduction with no annoying pixelation. One-chip DLP technology permits the construction of the smallest and lightest projectors, such as the LT150, whereas three-chip DLP technology is used for high-performance projectors such as the XT5000, SX60000 & XT9000 due to its high luminous efficiency and outstanding image quality. To ensure that you can obtain the ideal projector whatever your requirements, NEC offers projectors using both technologies.

By using the projection factor of the lens. This indicates the distance the projector should be placed from the screen in order to achieve a given image width. An example: with a projection factor of 2:1 the projector should be placed 4 metres from the screen in order to achieve an image width of 2 metres. In standard 4:3 mode this would mean an image height of 1.5 metres. To simplify calculation NEC has provided a configurator on the Internet at http://nec.avtool.net/site/index.php?lng=en. Using different lenses, for instance rear projection or telephoto lenses, increases the projectors’ range of use.

The screen size should reflect the fact that the distance between the viewers and the screen should be no less than 1.5 times the image width and no more than 6 times the image width. However, projectors with zoom or replaceable lenses give you greater flexibility. The projection factor determines the ratio of screen width to distance between projector and screen. This allows you to work out which projector placement makes optimum use of the available projection area.

Recomendations for optimizing operations of NEC Public Displays

• Content should not be of static nature. (Image retention is not covered by warranty.)

• Operating temperature should be as low as possible. (Ideal: room temperature)
• If possible, reduce brightness. (Reduces wear on the LCD panel and minimizes power consumption.)
• Where possible minimize the contrast of the content. (Sharp black / white contrasts should be avoided.)

Monitors don't use drivers but, rather, there is a monitor information file used by the operating system to implement the Plug & Play feature of Windows.

This depends on the model. All of our monitors come with a user manual that will step you through the changing of the screen's size and position.

This issue has to do with the video card in the computer, not with the monitor. The monitor will do umlimited colors but it's the video card and it's driver that give you those choices.

We would recommend installing the latest drivers for your video card.

This typically indicates that the monitor is not receiving a video signal from the video card in the computer. You should verify that the card is the problem by trying the monitor on a different, working system. If you still do not get an image, please contact our support, the monitor might be defect.

Please refer to the monitor’s manual for the recommended refresh rate with your set resolution and adjust it accordingly.

Clean the LCD monitor surface with a lint-free, non-abrasive cloth. Case of persistent dirt, wipe with cloth permeated by water, ethanol, isopropyl-alcohol completely. Avoid using any cleaning solution or glass cleaner (ex Acid, Alkali and Acetone).

A special coating is provided on the glass (CRT) surface of this monitor to reduce a reflection and static electricity on the glass surface. Due to the delicate coating on the glass surface, use a lint-free, nonabrasive cloth (cotton or equivalent) and a non-alcohol, neutral, nonabrasive cleaning solution to minimize dust. If the screen requires more than a light cleaning, apply water or soften neutral detergent with much water directly to a soft cloth and use it upon wringing water, to clean the glass surface.

Unlike CRT displays, the LCD panel has a fixed pixel format over a set area. In order for LCD 's to expand resolutions to full screen an interpolation must be performed. When the interpolated resolution is not an exact multiple of the native resolution some lines appear thicker than others. Please refer to the display manual for the optimum resolution.

NEC Display Solutions sells a wide variety of monitors. We use different versions of OSM’s (On Screen Manager) depending on the features of the monitor. Please refer to the manual for detailed instructions for the OSM usage.

To permanently turn of the “Resolution Notifier” message Bring up the OSM. Go to the “TOOLS” tag depending on the monitor there may be one or two tools tags If there are two go to the second tag. Under the “TOOLS” tag select the symbol. This is the “Resolution Notifier” setting. Use the < > buttons to set the Notifier to OFF.

The manufacturing process for LCD displays requires millions of transistors in each panel. Limitations of the manufacturing process sometimes result in dead pixels. A "dead pixel" can take the form of either a contrast spot or a black spot. A contrast spot appears when a completely gray screen is displayed. A black spot appears when a completely red, green or blue screen is displayed.

If your monitor will not power on, the first thing to check is the “vacation switch”. The vacation switch will be located on one of the sides of the monitor or on the bottom for our larger monitors (above 30 inch). Make sure this switch is in the ON “ I” position. Many NEC Display Solutions monitors are made with vacation switches. The vacation switch enables the monitor to be turned off completely.

The monitor will display an OUT of RANGE message when the output of the video card in the computer exceeds the monitor's capability. The easiest solution is to get to a point where you can reload the drivers for the monitor.

Reset your monitor to its default settings.

1. Restart Windows in “Safe Mode”

2. Click Start, then select Settings, then Control Panel. The Control Panel window opens.
3. Click/Double-click the Display icon. The Display Properties window opens.
4. Click the Settings tab.
5. Click Advanced. The Advanced Display Properties window opens.
6. Click the Monitor tab.
7. Click Change. The Select Device window opens.
8. Select Plug and Play monitor (VESA DDC) by following the on-screen instructions.
9. Restart Windows.

After the default driver is working reload the drivers for you monitor

This is not a defect, the lines are built into the CRT. The MultiSync FP and FE series monitors use an aperture grille CRT. This type of CRT has thin vertical color stripes that run from the top of the screen to the bottom. The color stripes are separated by a thin wires that make up the grill. The horizontal lines you see are shadows of two horizontal damping wires used in this type of CRT to maintain image stability.

Because NEC appliances are chiefly used for professional display purposes, they are not fitted with SCART connectors as standard. To make NEC monitors SCART-compatible, NEC offers an optional SCART BNC cable and SCART D-Sub adapter. 
Connect the 4 BNC connectors to the plasma display’s RGB2/DVD2/HD2 input (R, G, B, HD). Then select the OPTIONS or SET UP submenu from the on-screen menu (OSM) and switch to SCART1 under BNC SELECT (see Manual for further details). The RGB2 input can now no longer be accessed via the remote control’s RGB/PC button. Select the HD2/SCART1 input by pressing the DVD/HD (or DVD/HD2) button on the remote control.
If the OSM’s BNC SELECT menu item is reset to RGB, the RGB2 input is once again available as a data input via the RGB/PC button.
If using the SCART D-Sub adapter, set the menu item D-Sub Input to SCART3 and use the remote control to select the HD3 input.

Some receivers or DVD players transmit too high a video signal level or too high a direct current component via the SCART connector. As a result the internal sync stripper may not correctly separate from the FBAS signal the frequencies needed for synchronisation, and the picture may then be displayed in unstable or distorted fashion. In this event the setting SCART2 should be selected under the menu item Option1/BNC Signal or SET UP. When this is done the synchronous line (the yellow connector = FBAS signal), which had previously been connected to the HSync input, will now be connected to the Video1 input. Connecting a 75-ohm resistor along the HSync line will also help.
The same phenomenon also occurred recently with the SCART D-Sub adapter when it was connected to the RGB1 input. Because no 75-ohm adapter is available on the market for this purpose, we recommend soldering a 75-ohm resistor into the SCART connector between PIN 18 and PIN 20 (FBAS line).

All current VP/VM/XM models can also be operated vertically. To adopt portrait mode you will need special software such as Portrait, which is available at www.portrait.com.

This is very easy because NEC displays, unlike those of many other providers, recognise the input signal and automatically adjust to it. This guarantees that the picture adopts the right format and synchronisation and that no time-consuming adjustment is necessary. Brightness, contrast & colour, etc., are individual settings for which most individual users have very different requirements depending on the application, environment or signal source, and accordingly they can be adjusted separately.

For mobile use in-house stands fitted with rollers are available from various NEC partner firms. For transportation, flight cases are available to protect displays. Note that the displays must be transported vertically.

As a rule plasma displays can operate at ambient temperatures of between 0° and 40°. You will find the exact details in the product presentation literature. For outdoor use NEC has partners who manufacture an air-conditioned case.

Suitable stands are available for all models, and NEC also offers wall mountings (including tilting ones), ceiling mountings, pedestals and a special video wall mounting. For further details please consult the information on each individual model. NEC partners also offer individual solutions to meet special requirements.

Some plasma display models have fans, but at 22dB they are barely audible. Unlike projectors then, plasma screens produce hardly any distracting noise. For some types of device and applications fan-assisted cooling is necessary to prevent damage to the electronics and increase the unit’s lifetime.

Plasma displays are completely insensitive to electromagnetic radiation.

In general any graphics card can be connected even if they only support classical 4:3 resolution (for example VGA, SVGA, XGA, SXGA, UXGA). However, to achieve optimum image quality it is advisable to use a graphics card which supports the physical resolution of the display. These can be obtained from virtually any graphics card manufacturer. A driver update is often all that is needed, but if not the company Power-Strip (http://www.entechtaiwan.com/index.shtm) offers a tool with which the signal can be adjusted to the nearest pixel.

All the usual standards are supported by NEC displays. As well as the PAL signal most commonly used in Germany, they will also reproduce NTSC and SECAM signals.

All current displays feature audio amplifiers, enabling equipment such as the elegant optional monitor speakers to be operated.

NEC plasma displays feature an RS-232 interface with which the display can be controlled externally.

The warranty period is two years, though for a small surcharge payable on purchase this can be extended to three years. Under the warranty NEC offers an on-site service with the option of exchange or repair within the EU and also in Switzerland. We have either authorised service partners or a repair service in many other countries.

NEC plasma displays offer a wide variety of connection options. Data signals can be connected via the classical Mini-D-Sub 15pin, BNC or DVI, while video sources can be connected via FBAS (video), S-video or component signal. Devices which support a SCART RGB output can also be connected via a corresponding cable/adapter available as an option from your NEC dealer.
All post-November 2004 models are naturally also HDCP-compatible via the DVI input and support all usual HDTV signals with both 50Hz and 60Hz!

Yes, because the plasma display’s viewing angle is 160° from all directions.

There is no distortion of the 16:9 format signal (which is used for movies, for instance). In the case of computer signals we recommend using graphics cards which support the 16:9 format. These are available from almost all graphics card providers, though in some cases you will need to update the graphics card driver. For PowerPoint you just have to set up a MASTER in 16:9 format (e.g., Width 32; Height 18). 
In the case of 4:3 format video signals, NEC plasma monitors offer several display options. Apart from FULL mode, where the image is stretched evenly across the entire screen width, you also have the options of 4:3 NORMAL mode, which displays an unstretched image with bars to left and right, and of STADIUM mode, where the correct proportions are retained in the centre while the sections to each side are stretched, as well as 14:9 mode, ZOOM mode and 2.35:1 mode.

The lifetime of a display is defined as the period after which it only has half the brightness of a new display. Naturally you can continue to use the display after this point has been reached. Under normal operating conditions (displaying video) the lifetime of the latest generation of devices is around 60,000 hours.

The panels are ultra-flat, being less than 9 cm thick in the case of the 42” model, for instance. When installing them you must ensure that the heat produced by the display can dissipate, for which a minimum distance from the wall of 4.5 cm is needed. To ensure that the air circulation is adequate when installing against a wall or in a recess, there should also be a gap of at least 5 cm to either side of the panel.

Plasma displays generally feature 16:9 format which matches the natural viewing angle of the eye. The physical resolutions are usually Wide VGA (853X480 pixels) or Wide XGA (1365x768 pixels), and of course computer signals such as XGA (1024x768) can also be reproduced. NEC plasma displays offer excellent signal processing of resolutions up to UXGA (1600x1200).

Like any screen based on phosphor and all other gas plasma screens, plasma displays may under certain circumstances be susceptible to phosphor burn-in, which is the result of the uneven use of the phosphor in the cell. To prevent this, prolonged display of the same image should be avoided.

To reduce burn-in, NEC offers a reduced brightness long-life mode, pixel shift (where the image rotates around several pixels), all-white mode (whereby the screen displays a white image and no additional signal source for a certain period), screen wiper (whereby a white bar moves across the image) and also inverse mode (where colours are displayed inversely). XGA models also offer a soft-focus setting which softens sharp transitions.

When connecting end devices the Auto Picture Adjust feature is particularly useful because it recognises the incoming signal automatically and adjusts it to the display. For presentations and video conferences the zoom and multipicture functions of the multimedia displays are very popular. The narrow frames of our Public Displays and integrated split calculator facilitate the creation of video walls with 2x2, 3x3, 4x4 or 5x5 screens. There is also a programmable timer which is ideal for time-controlled switching on and off and signal input selection, all without the need for any expensive external equipment. If portrait display is required, our Commercial Series can also be operated vertically.

Naturally NEC plasma displays are also suitable for watching television. To do so, TV tuners, satellite receivers, video recorders or computers plus TV card may be connected.

For presentations, computers and notebooks may be connected via the D-Sub, BNC or digital input (DVI), while TV tuners, satellite receivers, video recorders, DVD or HD players and video conference systems are all suitable video sources. Various RCA, Hodisen (S video), D-Sub and BNC connectors are available for connection purposes, and a special cable or adapter is available for SCART connection. All connectors (including the video board) come as standard, meaning that up to seven devices can be connected to the display.

NEC offers a wide variety of installation options. These include pedestals, stands, angled stands (20° or 70°), wall mounting and ceiling mounting. For video walls NEC offers a special multi-screen frame.
